Jean Valjean’s freedom was limited even after he was released from prison by the way people treated him. He was given less opportunity and less pay and more disdain.

How we all are limited by our lack of opportunity in comparison with those who have more. There is always someone who has more: not because they really exist, but because we are looking for that person. The only difference between people is in the attitude that they choose. Either a person chooses bitterness and entitlement, leading to a life of hate and anger and malice. Or a person chooses forgiveness and generosity, leading to a fruitful life both in private and in public.

If I choose gratitude, then my private world can be fruitful in worshipful meditation on my Creator and thankfulness for His mercy. Love overflows into the lives of others.
